In honor of Veteran’s Day, here is some food for thought…
There are lots of quotes dealing with veterans, war, patriotism and remembrance. I’m going to pick just a couple that mean the most to me after i take a moment to explain why this holiday matters to me.
i grew up in a family where service to this country was always held in high regard. i was always proud to say that i had grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins that served in the military and while they all were an example to me, nothing drove home that point further than having a brother serve this country. It’s weird as an older brother to look at my little brother and say unequivocally that he is not just a hero but a role model and someone that i look up to. I might be biased when it comes to the “LT” but he exemplifies honor, integrity, determination and lives out the characteristics that make not only a great soldier, but a great man and an even better brother. i had respect for the armed forces before, but i hold the men and women who serve and their families in the highest esteem. Their service & sacrifice is something to be commended and treasured. It should never be used as a punch line, marketing ploy or a cautionary tale. what they do, what they are willing to give is the epitome of what makes this country still one of the proudest nations on the Earth. This country is facing many challenges today, but it is because of our service people, people like my brother that makes me certain that America is up to the challenge and we will endure. Have a great Veterans Day & my greatest, humblest praise & admiration goes out to all our current & former Vets. I leave you with the following quotes in no particular order, if you disagree with any of them, feel free to contact me, I’d gladly discuss why you think these fine quotes and honorable notions aren’t correct.

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”
“I think there is one higher office than president and i would call that patriot.”
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
“Valor is stability, not of legs and arms, but of courage and the soul.”
“It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.”
“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”
