Ok, well this weekend I’ve been doing a lot of pc computer tinkering. I had some upgrades to do, I had to install a new hard drive in my laptop. I made the switch to a SSD as my boot drive in my HP laptop. All this tech talk has really got my geek on. I’ve mentioned a couple times lately and to anyone who’s been around me about the pc builds I have scheduled for this summer.. In case you’ve missed it here’s a quick list. I’m building a new file server to feed my massive dvd collection to all my connected devices like my XBox 360, blu ray player, laptop, Zune HD, Xoom, both of my desktops and my home theatre pc. I’m also building a home theatre pc to help take advantage of my movie collection, and to have access to my own custom DVR. I’m also building a new desktop PC based oe n the upcoming AMD Bulldozer. Now, I know its overkill since I just built an AMD Phenom II X6 pc this last fall, but lets face it.. who wouldn’t want to go to an 8 core processor. With that particular build I’m going to build my first liquid cooled pc.. I mean, what fun would it be to have an 8 core processor and not be able to push it to 5GHz or more, right? Well, for anyone truly geek that wants to know, the following is a list of the hardware specs on the file server and the home theatre pc:
file server
MSI 785GTM-E45 Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 9750 CPU
Crucial Ballistix 4096MD PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
L12-1370 Lite-On IHDS118-04 Internal DVD Drive
Cooler Master RC-310-BWN1-GP Elite 310 Mid-Tower Case
Corsair CMPSU-750TXV2 Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750 Watt ATX Power Supply
and 4 Seagate Barracuda 7200 2 TB HDD
now here’s the home theatre PC
Biostar A880GU3 AMD Micro ATX Motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 9750 2.40 GHz Quad Core CPU
Crucial 1GB PC 10600 DDR3 (x2)
Lite-On Blu Ray Rom Optical Drive
Silverstone Sugo SF02B-F Micro ATX HTPC Case
OCZ Vertex 60GB Sata SSD
Now the home theatre build will be with Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate Edition, although I am contemplating using Windows XP media center edition. As for the file server, well I think I’m going to use windows home server 2003 edition. I’ll be posting pics as the builds start to come together.. Well, i think with this big ramble i’ve satisfied my geek cravings for the weekend.. 🙂 here’s today’s quote…
